Today, we are very happy to announce our new partnership with the popular eBook publishing and distribution platform, Smashwords.com.
By August 19th, the Diesel eBook Store will be carrying many of the 10,000 plus Smashwords-published titles. However, that’s just one aspect of our new partnership.
One of the several reasons we decided to work with Smashwords is the fact that many of our customers are aspiring authors who’d like to have their own books available on the Diesel eBook Store.
Unfortunately, pushing your eBook to one of our distributors is not the easiest of tasks, if you happen to be a struggling part-time writer. But Diesel heard your requests, Dear Readers, and thus we now have an answer to all your self-publishing inquiries: SMASHWORDS!
Smashwords was founded and is operated by the industrious, Mark Coker. And like New York City, this guy *never* sleeps. We have yet to meet someone who is so dedicated to his authors (and there are literally thousands he works with, seemingly on a daily basis.)
What we found so interesting about Smashwords is its business model. Simply upload your formatted Microsoft Word document to its server and Smashwords will convert your work FOR FREE, into nine different formats. Then, you can opt to have your eBook(s) shipped to a number of the top eBook retailers.

We also like Mark a lot because he’s such a downright cool guy.
For example, we recently introduced him to Norman Mailer’s son, the prolific John Buffalo Mailer, and before we could bat a star-studded eye, Mark and John posted an excellent interview at the Huffington Post.
Also, Mark and Diesel’s very own Kelley Allen just submitted a panel proposal about the Indie eBook Revolution, to the South By Southwest (SxSW) Festival held in Austin, Texas, every March. Public voting for our proposal commences on August 9th. We’ll be sure to let you know more about it next week.
Another reason why Mark rocks our eWorld is that he is a strong advocate of Indie eBooks, Indie Authors and Indie Retailers.
He posts in his blog today, “As I mentioned in my July 24 post, How Indie Ebooks will Transform the Future of Book Publishing, ebook retailers are an essential component of every indie author’s book marketing strategy. If you’re only selling your book at the largest ebook retailers, you’re selling yourself short. Each ebook retailer helps you reach new and unique readers that don’t shop at other retail outlets.”

Dear Staff:
My name is John Rataczak.
I have written a Christian book entitled The Ramifications of Our Salvation. It is 161 pages long (8.5 x 11), has 35 chapters, has 4 graphics in the last chapter.
I have had a professional proofreader review it, and she feels it is very marketable.
Anyhow, I presently am very limited on funds but would like to know the following:
1. Would you make such a book available in an ebook if I had sufficient funding?
2. About how much expense is needed to self publish such a book?
3. What kind of marketing strategy is involved?
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
John Rataczak, Ph.D.

Hello Dr. Rataczak,
So pleased that you wrote. To answer, simply sign up with our self-publishing partner, Smashwords. It’s 100% free to you. Smashwords will digitally convert your titles into nine different eBook formats and will then distribute your titles to their various eBookstore partners including the Diesel eBook Store. As for marketing, check out Smashwords’ site for advice.
Hope this helps.
Hi Scott & Kelley,
Someone from Diesel had directed me to this page. I tried clicking on the links to upload titles and become a Smashwords author but both say page not found. Can you direct me to where to go?
Thanks!
Kim
